Augusta opens its doors to ladies

Augusta opens its doors to ladies:

The last stronghold of male-only golf has finally crumbled under constant pressure from the fairer sex. Augusta National Golf Club has finally caved and allowed two female members to join, in 80 years since the club opened its doors back in 1932. Two women golfers were admitted and the club issued a statement suggesting that they were subjected to the same application process as their male counterparts, and that their membership at Augusta is ‘a joyous occasion’.

Augusta has always been on the receiving end of considerable abuse towards lady golfers worldwide for its pretty blatant chauvinistic and sexist attitude. With two high-profile lady golfers joining the club, lady golfing fanatics will back down a little. Or will they?

You see, the two ladies that have been given membership are former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice and a high-powered business executive from Salt Lake City by the name of Daria Moore. Both are clearly well connected and wealthy so is this victory for the ladies? Personally, I don’t think so, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction. Who knows, the Mole’s great grandchildren may even get to see a Ladies Masters at Augusta in 2100.
